Our office is located in the historic C.A. Smith & Sons building on Main Street. We have been in this location since 1977.
The gift of vision is one we treasure highly, so even the most routine physical exam or checkup often includes a basic eye test. But we all know that there is more to quality vision care than checking your eyes against an eye chart.
The physical and chemical processes that enable you to see are quite complex. Regular and thorough eye examinations are a must for every man, woman and child, because normally our eyesight begins to slowly deteriorate in our teen years. As we get older, other complications, such as cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration might develop. Some problems with vision can even begin in early childhood.
A thorough eye exam requires time, state-of-the art equipment and the personal attention of a trained doctor. Dr. Robert A. Smith offers you these things and more. A brief review of the information on this website will help you know what to look for when selecting an optometrist to care for your precious gift of vision.
For your convenience, we prefer to schedule appointments. However, if your needs require you to come without an appointment, we will do our best to serve you as expediently as possible. We will be happy to fill out insurance forms, but we request payment at the time of service. MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover are accepted.
If, during an examination, Dr. Smith finds that a patient will benefit from the professional care of an ophthalmologist, rest assured that we have an extensive network of doctors to whom a referral can be made. These are doctors with whom we have worked for many years, and we will choose the ophthalmologist who can best help our patients.
In the event you need emergency care after hours or on the weekend, please call our office number at 817.473.9301 and you will be directed to call Dr. Smith or Ann directly. We take care of our own emergencies here in the office at any time - day or night - with a minimum of wait time. Because our office has the proper instruments and an experienced doctor, we can remove foreign bodies and treat eye injuries and infections without the necessity of visiting an emergency room.
There are times when a patient’s health history or symptoms require even more in-depth testing than a visual analysis. For those times, our office is pleased to offer complete visual field testing. Our Humphrey field instrument uses threshold testing to determine retinal sensitivity and can screen for glaucoma and other disorders of the optic nerve and brain before they become symptomatic. Finding these subtle changes early is critical in stemming loss of vision due to glaucoma or other disorders if left untreated.
Patients on Plaquanil therapy for rheumatoid arthritis are often advised by their physicians to have frequent dilated eye examinations. We are happy to provide this service.
